Overview

Few people in Secunderabad are aware that the Sree Adinatha Jain Temple on RP Road in Secunderabad has strong historical ties to the Maurya period. The idols of Lord Adinatha, Mahaveer Swami, and Abhinandan Sawai placed in the temple are approximately 2,000 years old, despite the fact that the temple is just 200 years old. During the reign of Samprati Samrat, these idols were carved out (grandson of Ashoka the Great).

The Sree Adinatha Jain Temple is the oldest of the twin cities’ Jain temples. More than 200 worshippers visit this shrine every day. The three idols in this shrine were transported from Aurangabad, where they were buried underground by Moghal ruler Aurangazeb during his battles.

A Jain monk is said to have urged community members to dig up certain idols from the underworld and pay them proper reverence. This occurred about two centuries ago. A group of monks from Aurangabad decided to place the famous idols in a temple and transported them to the city.

Manikchand Samdhariya, the former president of the Sree Adinatha Jain Temple, claimed it was approximately 200 years old and one of the oldest Jain temples in Secunderabad and Hyderabad. He claims that approximately one lakh idols were created during the reign of Samprati Samrat, three of which are now housed in the Adinatha Jain temple.

The temple was rebuilt in 1905, according to Samdhariya, and an idol of Lord Manibhadra Veer was placed during the process. According to him, worshippers go here on Thursdays in greater numbers than on other days since it is believed that all prayers and wishes are granted here.

According to him, the temple was restored with marble stones in 1997, and the idol installation was resumed under the supervision of Acharya Sri Vijay Kalapurna Surishwarji (Jain monk).
